Cultural Objectives of Overseas Student Teaching

I am so excited to student teach overseas in Mexico. I am a little nervous about the experience, especially because I will be traveling by myself, which I have never done before, and I won't know anyone else in Mexico while I am there but I am still very excited for this chance to expand my knowledge of education practices and to learn more about the culture. It is going to be a very eye opening experience for me. I have never been out of the country before so this will be a great learning opportunity for me. I'm very excited to learn as much about the culture as possible and about the school system in Mexico. This will also be a great way to experience the language and teaching English as a Second Language will be a great thing to put on my resume as well as extremely beneficial in helping me determine what it is I want to teach after college. I'm very excited to experience teaching in another language and getting to know people of a different culture. Also it will be great to bring those experiences back with me to share with friends and family as well as being able to put them to use in a future classroom. I am about to begin my job search and I am hoping to find a job in this county where the Hispanic population is growing so my experience with the language and the experience of teaching English a few times a week while I'm in Mexico will be extremely helpful to me in the future. I am going to be in Morelia, Mexico for my student teaching and it is a very historical and culturally rich part of Mexico so I am very excited to learn about the traditions and cultural aspects of the city and country from my students, host family and my travels.
